What we found

The 18–20-year-old home was in relatively good condition, with minor drywall holes and areas needing orange-peel texture matching. The kitchen cabinets needed considerably more attention. Previously painted by the former owner, they had heavy brush marks, nicks and holes that would remain visible without thorough preparation.

Prep & repairs

  • Prep and Repairs
  • We patched the drywall holes and matched the surrounding orange-peel texture before painting. The interior received Sherwin-Williams Duration Home, with a satin finish on the walls.
  • Cabinet doors and drawer fronts were removed and taken to our shop, while the fixed boxes were prepared and painted in the home. We filled holes and nicks, power-sanded the pronounced brush marks smooth, and applied one coat of STIX bonding primer followed by two coats of Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. The doors and drawer fronts were spray-finished for a smooth, consistent appearance.

The result

The finished interior brought the homeowner’s selected colors into her new home, while the refinished cabinets replaced the rough, brush-marked appearance with a smooth finish. Michelle kept the homeowner informed throughout the project, and the team finished ahead of schedule. In her five-star review, the homeowner praised the communication, workmanship and honest guidance—and called the kitchen cabinets her favorite part.

Amazing Team! Outstanding Service! Fair Price! Fast Booking! A New Leaf Painting brought color into my life after years of white and beige walls! Thomas, the owner, met me at my home to give me an estimate. I wanted the whole interior, garage, ceiling, and kitchen cabinets painted. He not only assessed the house, but also took the time to listen to my goals for the home and get to know me. In the end, I feel he really understood that I was starting a new life after the Navy and that, though this wasn't a new house, it was new to me. The estimate wasn't cheap, but it was certainly fair. I appreciated that some items were listed as line items that could be added/subtracted as needed. For example, Thomas had pointed out that ceilings often don't need repainting. I didn't realize that, and I appreciated that he didn't take advantage of my ignorance and just take my money and paint them anyway. I was able to add on painting the front door, which I appreciated very much. I did use the free color consultation. It was very helpful to have a neutral party provide guidance in selecting colors. The painting crew was amazing. The team leader, Michelle, was on top of it! They arrived on time every day and finished ahead of schedule. The workmanship was top-notch. Michelle kept me updated daily on the progress and was easy to communicate with. Before starting, we reviewed each line item and color, walked the rooms, and checked and double-checked everything to ensure it would be exactly as expected in the end. That was undoubtedly the most important part of this entire project, because in the end it was perfect. If you are considering painting your kitchen cabinets yourself--STOP! Please call A New Leaf!! My cabinets are my favorite part. I LOVE THEM. They were painted by hand previously, and the difference is astounding. The team removes the hardware, doors, and drawer fronts, then takes them to a shop to be sprayed. The final product is near flawless. You would think they came from the factory that way. It's a big difference when you can't see any brush strokes. WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY! I'll be calling them back when I'm ready to redo the bathrooms. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about A New Leaf Painting. If you are looking for professional, honest, fair, hard-working, genuinely nice people to work with, then give them a call. They won't let you down. BONUS: They're local and family-owned!!
