It's common sense: The best wall paint colors for bedrooms - or for any rooms - are paint colors that you won't grow out of too quickly. So when you're looking for painting ideas for kids' bedrooms, remember one other common bit of wisdom: Kids grow fast. That can make it a little tricky to pick out wall paint for a child's room. When it comes to painting ideas, nothing is completely timeless. But here are a few tips to ensure that the colors you choose for your child's room last longer than the battery-powered fire truck they got for Christmas.

There's a reason "baby blue" is called "baby blue."

For an infant's room, baby blue seems like a logical choice. But like their favorite "blankie," kids outgrow baby blue quickly. Here are three Benjamin Moore paint colors that are great alternatives: "Sea to Shining Sea," "Utah Sky," and "Lake Tahoe." These shades are slightly more aquatic, so they're a bit more timeless. At the same time, they're colors that are still friendly to young eyes.

Lemongrass and pesto... cocoa and falling snow

We all know that kids love hot cocoa, snow, lemongrass, and pesto. Well, maybe not pesto. Or lemon grass, for that matter. But those are four Behr paint colors that we love for a boy's room. We'd recommend using Falling Snow for the majority of the walls. Then use Chocolate Coco for an accent wall, and save Lemongrass and Pesto for more subtle accents like shelves.

The apple of my iris

Glidden's Dewy Iris is a vivid (but not TOO vivid) violet hue that's great for a girl's room. Accent it with a few accessories in an apple red. As she gets older, she can pick out other accessories that will help to keep the color scheme up to date with her changing tastes. Trust us - it's much less expensive to change out a few accessories than to change out the paint colors in the entire room!
